Clarity

About Structured Ink
Structured Ink is a technical documentation consultancy founded by Katie Kearns for teams working on complex products and systems.
Katie is a principal technical writer, documentation systems architect, and technical delivery lead with more than 25 years of experience in cybersecurity, public-sector, and enterprise environments.
Her background spans API and developer documentation, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and enterprise publishing.
She holds a Technical Writing Certificate, Professional Scrum Master I certification, and an academic background in molecular biology and biophysics. Outside client work, Katie supports emergency communications as an Amateur Extra Class radio operator.
The quill
Nearly 30 years ago, Katie’s father launched The Virtual Quill, writing about networking, technology, and digital identity. The quill in Structured Ink’s identity carries that work forward: a reminder that clear language has always helped people understand complicated technology, even as the systems and publishing tools change.
How Structured Ink works
Information should reduce uncertainty, not add to it.
Documentation should support different abilities, contexts, tools, and expertise.
Good systems make content easier to find, reuse, review, publish, and maintain.
Understanding the system, user, and real work comes before writing the page.
Documentation should remain useful after the initial project is complete.
Have a complex documentation problem?
Whether you need documentation created, reorganized, migrated, audited, or rescued from scattered files and expert knowledge, Structured Ink can help.
